Description

The Quehanna Trail (QT) is a 74 mile-long, oval-shaped loop trail in Moshannon and Elk State Forests in Central Pennsylvania. The trail passes through portions of Clearfield, Cameron, and Elk Counties. About 34 miles of the QT are within the Quehanna Wild Area, the largest such designated area in Pennsylvania. The QT has three cross-connector trails that can be used to form shorter loop hikes or hiked in their own right: the Cutoff Trail, the West Cross-Connector Trail and the East Cross-Connector Trail. The area traversed by these trails is among the most remote in Pennsylvania. The Guide to the Quehanna Trail provides you with the information you need to explore this wild area of Penns Woods. Great Resource but needs updates

As trail guide books go, this one is first rate. Very detailed and thorough. HOWEVER, reader beware that there have been some noteable trail reroutes as of Nov. 2020 since this was written in 2014. Granted, the author acknowledges a few of these that are anticipated at the time of writing. Also, the maps that come with the book don’t show much else besides the trail, such as significant features mentioned in the guide like campsites, roads, streams etc. I ended up supplementing this guide with the Purple Lizard Map and the DCNR map you can get at the park office or trail head. Lacking these features on the map and having outdated information made it difficult to plan the itinerary for a thru-hike. I ended up using three different maps, Gaia GPS app (which also does not accurately show the current trail route) and garmin GPS. In summary, this is an excellent guide, but definitely use some other more current maps along with it in your planning.
