The official Northern Forest Canoe Trail maps, produced by the organization that conceived, coordinated and developed it. NFCT flows through New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire, and Maine. Maps include put-in points, portages, campsites, local contact information, and permit guidelines. Water- and tear-resistant color contour maps offer detailed route descriptions. Islands and Farms: Vermont, Lake Champlain to Missisquoi River (Trail Section 4). This section of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail crosses Lake Champlain, the nation's sixth largest lake and the site of many naval battles from the American Revolution and French and Indian Wars. You'll paddle through farm lands and past vineyards, with options for lunch or overnight stays in small towns. Birdwatchers will enjoy the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge and a visit to the Abenaki Tribal Museum in Swanton.
